Dotychczas wydano dwa oficjalne albumy z muzyką z „Mrocznego Widma”. Pierwszy pochodzi jeszcze z roku 1999, kiedy to pojawił się w okolicy premiery filmu. John Williams jak zwykle spisał się na medal, tym razem, jak sam wspomina, przyszło mu zmierzyć się z bardzo ciekawym zadaniem. Tworząc normalnie dalszą cześć cyklu, wiadomo, że pojawiają się nowe tematy muzyczne, związane z akcją, nowymi miejscami czy postaciami. Stare tematy ewoluują. John Williams w „Mrocznym Widmie” miał możliwość powrotu do dawnych kompozycji, pewnego przypomnienia sobie ich, a także innej adaptacji. Tworząc prequel starał się też, nie tyle dodawać coś do tematu, ale rozbijać go na części składowe, i dopiero w kolejnych epizodach dodawać pozostałe ingrediencje, tak by wprowadzić także i muzycznie widza do oryginalnej trylogii. Tak jest z tematem Anakina, który w zamysłach miał się zmieniać w temat Vadera – w kolejnych epizodach, tak, że w TESB czyli V usłyszelibyśmy dopiero pełny marsz Imperialny. Zresztą temat Vadera pojawia się w filmie. Dokładnie w scenie gdy Yoda rozmawia o Anakinie z Obi-Wanem, jest on jednak bardzo delikatnie zgrany i prawie niesłyszalny.
Większość tej płyty stanowią jednak nowe kompozycje. Jedną z nich jest na pewno „Duel of the Fates” - wspaniały, pełen energii utwór z wykorzystaniem chorałów. Chóry były wykorzystywane też w innych utworach jak chociażby Swim to Otah Gunga.
Nagrywając muzykę do Epizodu I, wykorzystano aż dwa chóry, w tym jeden dziecięcy, który nagrał ostatni filmowy utwór.

Ogrom nowych utworów czy tematów, które miejscami pojawiają się w filmie zaledwie przez kilka sekund, nie mógł być w sposób satysfakcjonujący zamieszczony na i tak bogatym albumie. Pod koniec 2000 roku wyszło kolejne, tym razem dwupłytowe wydanie, ale już muzyki filmowej, czyli w wersji w jakiej znalazła się ona w filmie kinowym, a nie na albumie. Jedynym wyjątkiem jest dodatek, „Duel of the Fates” w wersji teledyskowej – czyli z kwestiami wygłaszanymi przez aktorów. (tu uwaga, nie był to teledysk dołączony, tylko sam dźwięk jak w teledysku). Sama okładka może wygląda niezbyt ciekawie, jednak album ten na głowę bije wydanie jedno płytowe. Dla każdego fana Johna Williamsa czy Gwiezdnej Sagi to gratka, której nie można sobie tak odpuścić. Warto dodać, że utwory często są połączone w większą całość i jest piękne, płynne przejście między nimi. Album składa się z następujących utworów: DYSK 1:

Pojawił się też nieoficjalny album, zrobiony na zasadzie coverów, ale był on już nagrany przez inną orkiestrę, a przede wszystkim wbrew sugestiom nie koncentrował się tylko i wyłącznie na TPM, czy SW, ale też i innych melodiach z filmów SF.
